Collect-a-Can

Collect-a-Can is a can recovery and recycling company: we pay cash for cans that have been collected.

The core business of our company is to facilitate the recovery of used beverage cans, although we also recover aerosol, aluminium, food, oil and paint cans as well as scrap tinplate generated in the tinplate and can-making processes.  Our objective is to ensure that used cans and consequently tinplate, exist in harmony with the environment.  All recovered used cans are either processed to add value (de-tinning and briquetting) or prepared and sold for recycling, resulting in a complete loop, called “cradle-to-cradle”.

At Collect-a-Can we work actively within the South African community encouraging citizens from all walks of life to assist us in our can collecting efforts.  Specific attention is paid to involving school children, young adults and members of disadvantaged communities in our projects.

We run an annual schools competitions campaign which aims to educate learners to be sensitive, informed and aware of the importance of recycling for the environment and to demonstrate the economic benefits of recycling.

Economic opportunities have been created by Collect-a-Can for individuals in the lower income sectors through our focus on entrepreneurial development. These collectors are not employed by Collect-a-Can so in essence they are able to support themselves through the collection of cans.
